There are different types of blogs depending on the subject:

The most common type is a personal blog. Blogspot, WordPress and other blog sites make available spaces for personal blogs. Personal blogs are online diaries or journals. You can post anything on your blog including images and videos. People also make cultural blogs which cover topics about the arts, music, painting and culture in general. Most of these blogs are made for educational purposes. Niche blogs are also called topic blogs. These blogs focus on a specific subject like acne remedies, diet methods, etc. This type is usually created in support of a website which sells the product or service. Business related topics are covered by business blogs. This type of blog is used by people to update others about business and its environment. Good examples are the blogs about the stock market. Science blogs are made by those who want to inform others about a particular scientific field. Usually the blog is restricted since some information is sensitive or confidential. Blogs written by two or more people are called collaborative blogs. This type of blog is maintained by clubs or interest groups. Students have also found a use for blogging. This type of blog is similar to a cultural blog though the subject maybe about a particular course. When a discussion about certain topics is made though a blog this is called a forum blog. Using a blog for advertising purposes is called spam blog or splogs. This kind of blog advertises a product or service blatantly.

What a lifesaver…especially when your television packs up just at the wrong moment.

And what moment could be more disastrous than your 32″ TV going kaput three minutes before kick-off of the most important match England has ever played. (Although perhaps the way they are playing EVERY match is the most important match they have ever played!)

All the staff at Eflex Computers had come in to work two early so they could knock off two hours early to watch England take on Slovenia in the crucial, must-win game.

Gary, Paul, Kirstie, and Jan had all decided to go to the pub – but family-man Alex had promised to watch the match with his kids who had also been allowed to go home early (nice to see the education system gets their priorities right sometimes!)

So while Gary and the others were supping beer and nibbling pork scratchings with three minutes to go before kick-off, Alex was busy getting the lemonade, and Pringles together on a tray.

He was in the kitchen signing “Three Lions On A Shirt” quite loudly to himself, when he was interrupted by the sound of his son and daughter screaming:

Dad! Dad! The telly’s gone! The telly’s gone!

Alex rushes in to find a smoking Goodmans smouldering away on the smoke-grey tabletop, and puts his hands to his head in utter dismay.

“Do something, dad,” the kids scream, “do something!”

It was obvious by the wisps of grey emanating from the back of the set that it wasn’t a simple fuse problem.

Okay, says Alex in his calmest voice. There’s only one thing to do – reach for the loft!

What? his kids wail.

As the computer repair center for Oakland, Wayne and Macomb Counties, Concise maintains a client list that resembles the “who’s who” in the Michigan small business community.  They are good, and they are growing out of their digs in Bloomfield Hills.

One of the reasons that Concise is so well respected in their industry is because they take the time to explain and teach at the same time.  Let’s face it, the information highway has its own language today.  Computer techies have always had a vernacular that tended to exclude the rest of the non-techie world.  Making things worse for us non-techies today, is the next layer of computer- speak: abbreviations of all the words that we had no clue about from the beginning.

The staff at Concise will now lead the pc tech support field by offering a series of articles with those definitions of words from the computer tech support world.  This is the first offering in what Concise hopes will be a long series of definitions from the computer tech speaker.

HONEYPOT

Wikipedia defines a HONEYPOT in computer speak, as a trap set to detect, deflect, or in some manner counteract unauthorized attempts to obtain use of information systems.

A HONEYPOT consists of a computer, data, or a network site that appears to be part of a network. But, the Honeypot is actually an isolated and unprotected deadend which appears to a hacker as valuable information.

Simply put, a HONEYPOT is a seductive decoy.  It lures the attacker into a harmless area of your system where it could be isolated, detected, and hopefully discovered by cyber police.  Read more...
